R-TECH completes nuclear accreditation

For nuclear construction in the UK, couplers are specified according to the BNFL Technical Standard A.0391_1 (July 2006). These requirements are also reflected in Appendix TA1-C of the CARES scheme for couplers. R-TECH Services has been UKAS accredited for some time for performing the static tensile tests required by this standard. We have recently been assessed by UKAS for performing two of the splice system acceptance tests. These are:

A low temperature static tensile test (temperature < 7ºC).

A cyclic tensile test. The splice is cycled for 100 cycles between 5% and 90% of the nominal yield stress, followed by a static tensile test.

R-TECH has successfully been through the UKAS accreditation testing for these tests, and they will be appearing in our scope of accreditation shortly. This means that R-TECH will be accredited for all tests according to the BNFL Standard. For more information on testing of couplers to the BNFL specification, please contact us.
