Mechanical Couplers
We have experience of testing a wide range of mechanical couplers. Coupled joints are normally tested alongside reference bar samples. Tests may be according to BS EN 10002-1, BS 8110, BS 4449:1997/2005, ISO 15835-2 or BNFL Technical Specification A.039_1. These tests also comply with CARES Appendix TA1-B or TA1-C.
Tensile testing
Tensile testing can be performed to a number of standards, including BS EN 10002-1, ISO 15835-2 and BS 4449:1997/2005 and ASTM A370. Tensile testing capability up to 1200kN capacity, suitable for coupled joints 12-40mm diameter. Measurements include slip (single or multiple loads), breaking load, stress-strain curves.
Fatigue testing
Fatigue testing to ISO 15835-2, BS EN ISO 15630-1 and BS 4449:1997/2005. Range of fatigue test machines available covering stresses up to 270 kN, and coupled joints of 12-40mm diameter.
BNFL Technical Specification A.039_1
Testing available for all tests under the BNFL specification for nuclear works. These tests also comply with CARES Appendix TA1-C.
This includes:
- Slip measurement
- Slip measurement after cyclic loading
- Breaking stress
- Tensile testing at -7ºC
